Hello and welcome to my tutorial!
This tutorial is going to cover these three sections:
Basic fighting moves
Chaining
Reactions
SECTION 1: BASIC FIGHTING MOVES
Basic fighting moves consist of two parent moves: Punching and kicking. There are many styles of doing these, but i am only going to demonstrate the most basic ones, in my style!
A basic punch should last about 6 to 7 frames, if it is well eased. Remember, the punch needs to slow down before being chained. We'll look at that later on.
This is a basic example of a punch: http://yourimg.in/f/80843j.gif
And the .Piv file to study the easing: http://yourimg.in/f/6u9180.piv
As for kicks, the concept is the same, the kick lasting the same general amount of frames depending on the easing.
Example (it's a bit rubbish lol): http://yourimg.in/f/d03a12.gif
.Piv: http://yourimg.in/f/0w46sb.piv
A bit of off foot placement here and there in the examples i'm afraid :O
SECTION 2: CHAINING
Chaining may seem daunting to all you beginners, but it is in fact pretty easy. It is applying the same concept to the basic moves, only one after the other. So you would animate the 6-7 frame punch, then move in to position for the next punch, then the next punch.
Here is an example of two punches in rapid succession (ignore teh shakiness lul): http://yourimg.in/f/ff054f.gif
and the .piv: http://yourimg.in/f/6httnj.piv
this concept applies to any kind of chaining, from a punch to a kicl, kick to a kick, kick to a punch, punch to a kick to a punch, whatever :P
SECTION 3: REACTIONS
reactions are a very important part of fighting animations. Without them your animations will be unrealistic and boring to watch. A reaction to a punch or kick will be based on the power of the punch or kick. A reaction to a jab would be the head snapping back for 2 or 3 frames, slightly affecting the upper body. A haymaker would knock the figure out. I'll give you one example of this.
Example: http://yourimg.in/f/5xcca7.gif
Thank you for reading my tutorial on fighting! I hope it helped someone, somewhere O.o
Credits to Cressel for the base, it is awesome! If you havent seen his bases then go over to the stick sharing section and take a look, they are truly win.
